ABOUT Steve burns

Hello, my name is  Steve Burns and having studied sports science and sports therapy at university, I knew that the field of sport is where I saw my future.

It was a good friend of mine who got me into CrossFit. After the first workout, I was hooked. Filthy 50 was my first CrossFit workout. If you know, you know.

I was a PE teacher abroad. I’d been in the country for a week, and if you know me, I was eager to buy some more shoes. So, I went to the nearest shopping centre and bought my first pair of weightlifting shoes. A pair of brand-new Reebok Legacy lifters. It was a heartbreaking time when I had to bin them. But that’s another story. In the bag with the shoes was a voucher for a free month at a CrossFit gym, one which I had heard of before and was desperate to visit.

Before I knew it that month had expired, and I was a paying member. Leaving my shoes in the locker overnight, feeling like a member of the family there. I loved every second of my time there. Becoming really good friends with the coaches and members.

I learnt how to double under, how to snatch, how to do a muscle up, and how to cope with feeling like your lungs have no air in them. I learnt how to have fun in a gym, which people don’t realise is possible!

I wanted to be like the coaches, having a positive impact on people’s lives.

So when the opportunity came to do my CrossFit Level 1 course at the very same gym, it was a dream come true. It had come full circle. I haven’t looked back since.
